The Action Heel Support is a positioning and pressure care aid designed to elevate and cushion the lower leg and heel of a patient lying in bed, keeping the heel completely off the mattress surface. By suspending the heel rather than simply padding it, this style of support removes direct pressure from the heel entirely rather than just redistributing it, which is considered a highly effective approach for patients at high risk of heel pressure injuries, such as those who are bed-bound for extended periods, have diabetes or peripheral vascular disease, or have very limited ability to reposition themselves. The support typically cradles the calf and lower leg in a contoured, padded cradle, allowing the heel to float in the open space beyond it while keeping the leg in a stable, comfortable position. This also helps reduce the risk of foot drop by supporting correct limb alignment. Covers are generally soft, washable and breathable to maintain comfort and skin integrity over long periods of use, and the support is easy for nursing staff or carers to fit and adjust without needing to reposition the whole patient. It is commonly used in hospital wards, aged care facilities and home nursing care as part of a structured pressure injury prevention plan, alongside regular skin checks and repositioning schedules.
