Amputee Slings are purpose-designed full-body hoist slings for users who have had one or both legs amputated, whether above or below the knee, or in some cases both legs removed entirely. Standard full-body slings are shaped around two full-length leg sections, which do not fit or support an amputee correctly and can leave the residual limb unsupported or cause the sling to sit unevenly during a lift. Amputee slings instead support the entire body up to and including the shoulders, with reinforced support around the pelvis and shortened or individually shaped leg sections that accommodate a residual limb on one or both sides, keeping the user balanced and secure whether the transfer is from a bed, wheelchair, chair, or the floor. Many designs use a split-leg or keyhole leg-section arrangement, sometimes with a loop that threads one leg section through to help keep the sections aligned and prevent the sling shifting during the lift. Construction typically follows the same materials used across general purpose slings — polyester or fine mesh fabric, often padded around pressure-sensitive areas — so the choice between models usually comes down to fabric type, sizing, and the specific amputation level being accommodated. Correct sizing and leg-section configuration should always be confirmed with a clinician or occupational therapist familiar with the individual's specific residual limb length and lifting needs before use.
