The Care Quip Heavy Duty Wheelchair is a bariatric manual wheelchair built with a strengthened frame designed to support significantly higher user weights and wider seat dimensions than a standard wheelchair, with capacity for up to 315kg and seat widths available up to 80cm. It is available across a range of seat width options — including 50cm, 55cm, 60cm and 70cm models — allowing the right size to be matched to the individual user rather than forcing a compromise fit. On the 50cm model, for example, the chair offers a 155kg weight capacity with a 50cm deep and 50cm high seat, 25cm high armrests, a 45cm high backrest, and a 95cm high push handle, with 24 x 1⅜ inch rear wheels and reinforced 8 x 2 inch front castors designed to handle greater loads without damage. Solid tyres eliminate the risk of punctures, an important consideration for a chair that will see heavy daily use. Removable vinyl upholstery makes cleaning straightforward and allows worn covers to be replaced without needing a new chair, while swing-away legrests and removable armrests simplify transfers for both users and carers. On wider seat models, an upholstery tensioner is fitted to prevent the backrest from sagging under greater loads over time.
