JAY Ion Cushion

The JAY Ion Cushion, made by Sunrise Medical, is a lightweight skin-protection cushion built around a multi-layered, dual-density foam base topped with visco-elastic memory foam that conforms closely to the body to distribute weight evenly and reduce pressure. Positioned beneath the pelvis is a JAY Flow fluid insert, which moulds around bony prominences such as the ischial tuberosities to reduce localised pressure and shear at the areas most vulnerable to skin breakdown. The cushion's cover system uses a moisture-resistant inner cover with anti-wicking seam thread and an Aqua-Guard zipper to keep fluid from reaching and degrading the foam base, while a stretch outer cover incorporates X-static silver-impregnated fibre for natural antimicrobial protection, along with a layer of 3DX spacer fabric that promotes airflow to help keep the skin cooler and drier. Both covers are machine washable for easy care. The Ion's low-profile design keeps the user's centre of gravity close to the wheelchair seat, which supports easier, safer transfers while still delivering genuine pressure-injury-level protection without adding unnecessary weight to the chair.
